Emmanuel Catholic College Curriculum Handbook
Year 10

Music

Year 10 music is a highly practical, year-long subject where students will gain a deep understanding of music within a variety of styles and genres. Using their own personal music tastes to guide their exploration, students will perform, compose, and analyse music. Students will strengthen their musical ear and learn to recognise and synthesize stylistic features when composing and arranging music.

Students will learn to use scores and music terminology to critique and compare musical works and will investigate the key historical events responsible for the development of music as we know it today.

Students choose, practice, and perform a wide range of solo and group repertoire while developing their technical skills, expression and stylistic range. Students have multiple performance opportunities including Music showcase, Music Solo Night and the Catholic Schools’ Performing Arts Festival.

Students go on excursions to view live performances and attend professional music workshops throughout the school year.
