Food Science

This course gives students the opportunity to explore the two sides of our everyday eating – making everyday meals healthy (but still delicious) and preparing inspired desserts, special occasion and bakery foods. This fun course allows learning through practical activities, research and planning.

Areas of study:

  • Food preparation and presentation skills
  • Nutrition
  • Making fast foods healthy and delicious
  • Preparing special occasion foods
  • Selection and use of specialist equipment
  • The science behind baking cakes and pastries

Assessment
Students will be assessed on their cooking skills in addition to their attention to hygiene and safety whilst cooking a wide range of food items – both healthy and indulgent. Planning, researching and evaluation skills are also assessed.
